![]() Rana, Corbin head a fast day in Austria Posted on: Sunday 29th June 2014 Bookmark This | Print This Page | Send To A Friend | Post A Comment A fast day in Klagenfurt for the 2014 edition of Ironman Austria saw some course record breaking times and many personal bests. Topping the charts and first across the line was 2002 ITU World Champion, three time Olympian and 2013 Kona sixth plae finisher Ivan Rana (ESP), who exited the swim within seconds of the leader and then added a race best 4:15:57 bike split to a 2:43:43marathon. His finish time of 7:48:43 is the third fastest iron-distance time on record, beaten only by Andreas Raelert (7:41:33, Roth 2011) and Marino Vanhoenacker (7:45:58, Austria, 2011). The 24th man to go 'Sub-8', Ivan was follwed swiftly by #25 in the shape of Germany's Christian Kramer in 7:54:31 who was 14th in Kona last season, and was third at Ironman Wales in 2012. There was record breaking in the women's race too. Firstly, winner Linsey Corbin (who also won in 2012), broke the previous course record time of Mary Beth Ellis from 2011. Her 8:42:42 was also her second 'Sub-9' clocking, but also lead to a genuine first. Simone Brändli (SUI), Lisa Hütthaler (AUT), Sofie Goos (BEL) and the Bella Bayliss coached Michi Herlbauer (AUT) all achieved that feat for the first time in filling positions two thru five - which makes it the first time ever that five females have all finished under nine hours in one iron-distance race. Great Britain's Caroline Livesey won the F35-39 category to finish 15th female overall and fourth Age Group finisher. Caroline's husband Mark (9:04:28 for sixth in M40-44) was also the fastest British male athlete. Dan Halksworth had his usual front pack swim and was going well on the bike until a mechanical about 55km into the race put him out of action. He'll now turn his attentions to the Commonwealth Games next month. Ironman Austria, Klagenfurt - Sunday 29th June 2014
