Triathlon Series Gets off to a Sprint Start in Gala

The first event in the 2014 Borders Sport and Leisure Triathlon series took place at Galahshiels on Sunday April 20th with over 160 athletes participating in the Sprint format competition  (750m swim, 20km cycle, 5km run).

Ewan Jackson, Chief Executive of Borders Sport and Leisure said: “It is brilliant to see our Triathlon series continuing to attract such strong support. Training for and competing in a triathlon can be exceptionally rewarding and we are delighted that more people than ever are choosing to get involved. The weather on Sunday was a bonus start to what we hope is going to be our best triathlon series yet.”

The Borders Sport and Leisure Triathlon series will continue with events in Selkirk (May 4th), Peebles (June 8h), Hawick (June 29th), Kelso (August 10th) and Eyemouth (September 21st).

The results from the Galashiels Triathlon are as follows:

2nd Stephen Clark 1:04:34 Keira Murray 1:13:11
3rd Jordan Hull 1:04:45 Lindsay Turnbull 1:15:03

The Come and Tri event (held on Saturday 19th April) which featured a shorter course for new competitors attracted 55 athletes and was won by Calum Mackay (Edinburgh) for the men and Louise Steven (Bridge of Weir) for the ladies.
