The Racetime/USN Triathlon Team is one of a number of UK-based triathlon raced teams that we regularly see featuring at or near the top of results here on Tri247.

Here, Team Manager Johnny Nicol reports on their 2013 season.

Racetime/USN Elite Triathlon Team Season Review

The 2013 season saw the team grow significantly with the introduction of some very talented juniors and a couple more experienced top level athletes. We started off with a pre-season training day/photo shoot where all the team enjoyed being given lots of goodies from our great sponsors.

The juniors led the way at the first event of the season with a win at the East Leake Sprint Triathlon for James Teagle and Fletcher Priestley in 5th. James went on to have an outstanding season also winning the POWERbreathe Desford Triathlon and Vachery Relay Triathlon overall and also winning his age group and finishing second overall in the Southwell and Market Bosworth events. More notable results though were second overall at the Brownlee Triathlon (beaten narrowly by Jonathon Brownlee!), and also second Elite Junior in his first season racing the British Elite Super Series. These performances also resulted in James being picked to represent Great Britain at Junior Elite level on three occasions.

Our plan for the season was to let the athletes do whatever races they had planned but to try and choose a couple of races that we could attend together and try to get some good results at. The events we chose were the Vachery Triathlon and the National Team Relay Championships. We took eight of the team to Vachery and dominated by winning the Standard and Middle Distance Relay events. The individual events had a high class field with some good money on offer by the organisers. Craig Twigg was unfortunate to DNF with bike issues after being in second position and Claire Shea-Simonds took fourth place overall. Nearly the whole team raced at the National Relay Championships and we fielded a team in the Senior Women, Junior Men and Vet Men categories. The Senior Women raced strongly and took the win for the Trade category and sixth team overall. The Men followed that up by taking the Junior and Vets National Relay Championship titles! What a weekend of racing and amazing results, lets just say I was a very happy team manager.

All of our athletes have raced to a high standard with other notable performances including:

The season has seen the team win a World U23 Championship, National Championship Titles, National Age Group Titles, Ironman World Championship Qualification and over 20 race wins, not to mention a number of other Age Group victories and podiums. Next year the focus will be again on supporting the athletes to be the best they can with the help of our great sponsors, a big thanks goes out to:
