Full GB Pro/Age Group results from Kona 2013: LADIES

In the lead up to the 2013 Ironman World Championships in Kona we highlighted the full listing of GB & Ireland entrants who had made it to the big island of Hawaii.

With the racing over - but the battle scars likely to be around for some weeks yet - it only seems appropriate to see how they got on.

First up, here are the (provisional) results for the ladies.

At the front of the race, pride of place goes to Rachel Joyce and Liz Blatchford who finished second and third respectively, behind winner and now two-time champion Mirinda Carfrae. Over the past five seasons Joyce has finished 6th, 5th, 4th, 11th and now 2nd. For Blatchford, making the Kona podium on her first attempt is an superb achievement, with Hawaii often smashing the reputations of those that race their for the first time. That bodes well for her potential to win this race over the next couple of years.

Not getting the major headlines (yet...), is Catherine Faux, though surely they will follow in years to come, if not sooner? We interviewed Catherine earlier this year, her results taking having been noted by us for some years - remarkable given her first triathlon was only in 2009. The medical student finished second in the F25-29 Age Group last season... but made the final step up this year, and in what style. Not only did she break the F25-29 Age Group record, she finished as first Age Group athlete overall. And more? Yes - that was the fastest female Age Group performance in Hawaii, ever....

While comparing the Pro and Age Group times directly is difficult - differnt start times, different race conditions (Pro only start vs. mass Age Group start etc), Catherine's finishing time of 9:15:16 would have made the top ten in the female Pro race.

Two other British athletes finished second in their Age Groups. Caterine's Team Freespeed Virgin Active team mate Alison Rowatt was also the second fastest British Female Age Group athlete (on her first attempt in Kona), taking silver in the F30-34 category in 9:44:37.

Barely two minutes behind Alison in 9:46:33 was Tracy Cook, a name that has graced the results sheets of Tri247 since our inception. That gave her second place in F40-44.

In Kona the Age Group prizes are five-deep, and that means that one of the locally made wooden bowl "Umeke" trophies will have also been won by Penny Gardiner, who took fourth in F45-49 with a time of 10:18:38
