2013 Powerman Geel/Belgium and Belgian Duathlon Long Distance Championship

The 2013 edition of Powerman Geel started at a 2pm with warm sunshine.

The 2012 winner Susanne Svendsen (DEN) returned to Geel on the back of a tough month of training and looked to display her strength and intention to retain her title from the start. She had tough competition in the form of newcomer Siobhan Horgan (IRL), who arrived with a strong cycling reputation earned from her professional cycling background. That duo, along with Siobhan Horgan (IRL)L) were in close contention through the first run, with Svendsen managing to break clear after 7.5km to reach T1 in 39:16, followed by Horgan (39:39) and Geldhof (40:01). Those positions would remain the same for the top three podium spots with Svendsen crossing the line in 2:59:01, closely followed by Horgan (2:59:48) and Geldhof (3:06:23)

The men's race featured former ITU World Standard Distance Duathlon Champion Emilio Martin (ESP) who would go on to take the win in Geel after a very tough race! Martin was the first into T1 after 31:52, followed by Benjamin Choquert (FRA) Johan Le Berre (FRA) in 32:03 and 32:12 respectively. Former European Champion Anthony Le Duey, also from France, was slightly off the pace at this early stage in 32:31.

The 60km bike leg would see changes occur, as Le Duey made up his early run deficit to reach T2 first, followed by Soren Bystrup (DEN) and Emilio Martin. Martin would however get to show his run strength on the final discipline to come home the winner in 2:32:41, second going to Anthony Le Duey (FRA) in 2:34:25 and Soren Bystrup (DEN) completing the podium in 2:36:38.
