While the sporting eyes of the nation were focused on SW19, the destination was TN10 for 266 competitors at the 7Oaks Junior Aquathlon.

The 8-16 year olds were cheered on in the blazing sun by their families and friends while more than 60 marshals from 7Oaks Tri Club ensured the third incarnation of this race passed off smoothly. Presenting the prizes were James Pearson from sponsor Knocker & Foskett and also Winter Olympic hopeful Lizzy Yarnold. As Britain's number one Skeleton slider, Lizzy's races take place at up to 90mph but last less than two minutes. She told the assembled youngsters that she thought they were as mad to be running as far as they were and that she wasn't sure how she would fare.

In addition to the race numbers bearing their names, chip timing and a big specially struck medal, the competitors will also get free race photo downloads taken by Sussex Sport Photography.

Race Director Mike Clyne told Tri247 “with so many people working so hard to deliver this race it was a joy to see the smiles and exertion on so many young faces. Whether they were fast or slow, we saw real determination across the board and I hope that in years to come they will progress to full triathlon. This combination of young people in sport and excellent volunteering shows that the 2012 Legacy lives on”.
