2009 Formula 1™ World Champion Jenson Button was busy indulging his other passion - triathlon - and with some success this past weekend, when he raced at Ironman 70.3 California, Oceanside.

Jenson is no stranger to the swim, bike, run sport, and has developed into a fine Age Group athlete in his own right in recent years - to the point that he even started his own triathlon, The Jenson Button Trust Triathlon, now in its second year - details HERE - taking place on Sunday 14th July this year.

Just last year, Jenson raced at Ironman 70.3 Philippines and finished third in the M30-34 category (4:35:49), a result which would have qualified him for the 70.3 World Champs had he elected to take the spot. In December he showed is running legs with a sub-three marathon in Honolulu, good enough for 66th place of 24,000+ entrants.

Oceanside was to see another excellent performance from Jenson, with a 4:29:00 finishing bringing him home fifth in AG30-34 (which featured over 250 athletes) - and a podium trophy.

The 2013 F1™ season show that the 70.3 World Champs clashes with the Italian Grand Prix at Monza on 8th September - so we won't be seeing Jenson at Las Vegas this year at least - but another PB time suggests that at some point down the line, when the calendars line up, we could well be seeing Jenson at the Ironman 70.3 World Champs.

Jenson was happy too, reporting via Twitter: "Tough but very rewarding day yesterday competing in 70.3 California Ironman.. 4hrs29mins which is a PB for me and a Podium finish, Oh Yeah!!"
