![]() Sam Gardner: XTERRA Guam Posted on: Thursday 28th March 2013 Bookmark This | Print This Page | Send To A Friend Here is the final report from Sam Gardner from the four week Pacific tour, the final race of which was Xterra Guam, last weekend. The final race in my month in the Pacific was Xterra Guam. I was feeling pretty tired after three, three-hour races on back-to-back weekends. Plus the travelling in between. With all the resting it's hard to get any consistent training in, and you end up with nearly a month of very little training, but it was the same for everyone. In the race it went fairly to form with the other races. I came out of the water about sixth. I caught Rory Downie and Bradley Weiss on the bike, both of whom I have been battling with in the previous weeks, but Ben Allen and Dan Hugo put time into us and entered T2 with a five minute lead. Myself and Bradley attacked Rory on the bike and worked together and opened up a couple of minutes gap starting the run. I knew I was going to struggle as two of my Maxifuel energy gels which were taped to my bike had fallen off and I'd only eaten one of the three gels. Onto the run and Bradley started very fast and soon put time into me, by half way round the run I started to feel better and suddenly at the final water station I could see Bradley in the distance again, but it was too big a gap to close before the finish, and I finished fourth, narrowly missing the podium. Our rivalry will be resumed next month in Xterra Malaysia, with all the top five pro men going. All-in-all it's been a great four weeks, with some pleasing race results coming off a tough cold winter. The results were as follows 3rd Xterra Philippines, 4th Xterra Saipan, 3rd Tagaman and 4th Xterra Guam. Thanks to all sponsors for you support. ![]()
