Despite the presence of you know who in Florida, the quality 70.3 race of the weekend was Ironman 70.3 Austria, St. Pölten.

We had confidently put our virtual pounds on a win for Germany's Andreas Raelert, but multiple winner Filip Ospaly (CZE) had other ideas, and in a close race just got the better of the German, both athletes recording '1:11' half marathon splits.

Germany did win today though, in the ladies race through Julia Gajer. If that name isn't familiar, previously Julia Wagner, she took second to Chrissie Wellington in her world best performance at Challenge Roth last year where she recorded a sub-9 iron distance finish.

Switzerland's six-time Ironman World Champion Natascha Badmann continues to defy age, and even with a swim that gives up three/four minutes to the majority of the event favourites, she still has it on the bike - understatement - and set a blistering pace on two wheels. Only Gajer and Erika Csomor (HUN) had the foot speed to prevent what would have been a quite remarkable victory. With the likes of Caroline Steffen, Sonja Tajsich and Gina Crawford in her wake Badmann is still quite a force.

Ireland's Eimear Mullan secured a top-10 finish (ninth, 4:33:29) in this quality field, her 1:21:11 half marathon one of the fastest of the day.
